Inositol plays a major role in preventing the collection of fats in the liver. The presence of the nutrient also aids in efficient processing of nutrients into the conversion of energy, which in turn helps the body to maintain a healthy metabolism. Inositol also can be considered brain food, as the nutrient is necessary to properly nourish the brain.
L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid which plays a vital role in the metabolism of fat. It functions as a transporter of fatty acids into the mitochondria, the metabolic furnace of the cell.
Choline is a chemical similar to the B-vitamins. Choline seems to work in conjunction with folate and an amino acid called methionine. Choline serves various functions – in the structure of cell membranes, protecting the liver from accumulating fat and as the precursor molecule for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
Taraxacum, the Common Dandelion (often simply called "dandelion"), is a herbaceous perennial plant. It is used as a "water pill" (diuretic) and as a laxative.
Methionine is a lipotropic amino acid, which reduces fat and aids in lowering cholesterol. It can be substituted for choline that aids in reducing liver fat (lipotropic agent). It detoxifies amines, which are by-products of protein metabolism. Methionine seems to act as a catalyst for choline and inositol thus speeding up their function. A deficiency of Methionine may lead to fatty degeneration and cirrhosis of the liver.
Lecithin is a lipid that consists mostly of choline, but also includes inositol, phosphorus, and linoleic acid. The choline and inositol in lecithin protect against hardening of the arteries and heart disease by promoting normal processing of fat and cholesterol. Lecithin binds fats and cholesterol to water so that they can pass through the body rather than cause a potentially harmful buildup in the heart or liver. The choline found in lecithin helps the body produce acetylcholine, a substance that acts as a chemical messenger to parts of the nervous system, and is essential to the brain’s memory function.
Uva Ursi: The leaves of this small shrub are used as a mild diuretic and astringent, and in the treatment of urinary tract infections. Uva-ursi can help to reduce accumulations of uric acid and relieve the pain of bladder stones. Uva Ursi is also helpful for chronic diarrhea. As a nutritional supplement and muscle relaxant, Uva Ursi soothes, strengthens, and tightens irritated and inflamed tissues.
Green Tea is used as a stimulant, diuretic (to promote the excretion of urine), astringent (to control bleeding and help heal wounds), and to improve heart health. Other traditional uses of green tea include treating flatulence (gas), regulating body temperature and blood sugar, promoting digestion, and improving mental processes.
Grapefruit oil and extracts have been used for muscle fatigue, stiffness, acne, fluid retention, and skin tightening, and as an antiseptic and astringent. They have also been touted for reducing cellulite. Grapefruit increases circulation, stimulates the lymphatic system, and may help to regulate body weight with regular use. It is also a good source of the antioxidant vitamin C.
Cayenne pepper assists in stabilizing the metabolism. When taking cayenne on a regular daily basis the metabolism can increase by up to 25%. The main ingredient in cayenne is called capsicum, that can burn extra calories in the body in a way similar to exercise but it's not going to be dramatic.
