Most species and hybrids of citrus plants called “limes” have varying origins within tropical Southeast Asia and South Asia. They were spread throughout the world via migration and trade. The makrut lime, in particular, was one of the earliest citrus fruits introduced to other parts of the world by humans. Majority of the citrus essential oils are obtained using cold pressed extraction from the rind of the fruit, and that is true about lime essential oil too. When produced using the cold pressed method (aka expressed), the lime essential oil is phototoxic.
Lime Oil is commonly used in pharmaceutical products due to its strong and multiple health benefits and properties. Lime Essential Oil is anti-viral, anti-septic, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal.
